Pop Culture - Old School Blogging

I am loving the Old School Blogging memes.
Fun stuff for this Old School Mama!
Here's this month's edition...

1.  What was one of your favorite shows as a kid?  Why?

I would have to say Growing Pains, because Kirk Cameron, that's why.  I loooooved him.

2. Which actress(es) do you see on the red carpet and kinda wish you could be for a day (or three)?

I don't watch awards shows.  I compare them to watching paint dry; they just don't interest me at all.  But I have a total girl crush on Sofia Vergara, and if I couldn't be her, I would have to choose Catherine Zeta-Jones.  Brunettes rock!!

drop dead gorgeous.

beautiful.

3.  Which actor do you wish you could, um... hang out with? ;)

Bradley Cooper.  It's rare that I like the same celebrity that everyone else likes (I am not at all impressed with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, nor 90% of the other men y'all ladies swoon over) but I love me some Coop.  Oh and I just saw that Hangover 3 will be out soon!  I cannot wait!

4. What is one (or two or some) of your favorite movies that you have seen in the last few years?

Well, the Hangover movies, obviously.  I love love love Straw Dogs.  I also loved the Paranormal Activity movies.  (can you tell I don't see movies a lot?)

The last movie I saw was on my first date with Byron.  I just asked him and neither of us can remember what movie it was!  hahaha

5. Who is one celebrity out there now that you could totally do without? That you wish would just disappear?

Other than the obvious, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan?  I'd have to say Ryan Lochte.  Dumb as a box of rocks, he is pretty much an embarrassment to humanity, and more importantly, to the University of Florida. (he is a former Gator.  Sad, but true.)  And I just could not care less what he would 'do'.  I think his best bet is to keep quiet and swim.

6. Have you ever met a celebrity? If so, who? What did you say/do when you met them?

I have.  I met Tim Tebow when he was still in training for the Florida Gators (where he played college football).  My then-husband John is a huge Gator fan and recognized him, even though he'd never played a game with the Gators.  He was with three other Gator players.  I went up and started talking to them (the ex was too chicken).  I chatted with Tebow for a while and then got his autograph, and he took pictures with my ex and two of my kids.  We had no idea how famous he would eventually become.  One of these days I need to scan those pictures.
I have nothing but respect for Tim Tebow; he is an amazing person.  Not to mention SMOKING HOT.

Also, once the season started I went to a game and when he was running into the tunnel, he high-fived me.  I haven't washed that hand YET.

I also met Joakim Noah, Al Horford, and some other former UF Basketball player whose name I don't recall. Maybe Taurean Green?  They  are all now pro players.  Horford's mother lived in the same apartment complex I used to live in, and I saw them one day while walking my dog.  Noah was petting my dog and I asked him if I could run home and get something for them to autograph.  I grabbed one of the ex's hats and ran back. They invited me in and they all signed it for me.  I knew right away it was Noah because not only is he literally almost 7 foot tall, he looks like this:

He's hard to miss.

7.  Which shows do you look forward to watching every week?

I rarely get to watch shows when they come on because I work nights.  But I love Duck Dynasty and I am addicted to most TLC shows.  I especially love My Crazy Obsession!  And I watch Welcome to Myrtle Manor, too.  I have never made a secret of my love for craptastic reality TV!  I can't wait for Honey Boo Boo to return.

Her mom reminds me of someone I know.
I can't quite put a finger on who though....

Smexy Mama.

Old School Blogging

I still occasionally do this "old school blogging"
because well, I AM old school.
Also, old.
I seem to like to cling to things LONG after they've gone out of style.
That's how I roll.
Anyway, my friend LeighAnn from Single Mom in the South
tagged me for this and I thought
OH HOW PERFECT!!

What were you doing 10 years ago?

This time 10 years ago, my first husband and I had just separated.  I was working (cleaning houses) and trying to figure out how to be a single mom.

What 5 things are on your to do list?

1. Start the process of getting my name changed on a million different things.
2. Get my husband started on building my chicken coop so I can fill it with chickens! YAY!
3. Laundry.  It never ends.
4. Get my nails filled.  Priorities, people.
5. Color my grays.

What are 5 snacks you enjoy?

  1. Veggies & ranch dip
  2. Nuts...cashews seem to be the current favorite.
  3. Cheez-its.
  4. Kettle cooked BBQ chips
  5. cheese in almost any form.

Name some things you would do if you were a millionaire.

Pay off all bills.

Pay for the kids' college.
Buy the kids crap they don't need. (just being honest! ha)
Build our dream home here on our property.
Buy a vacation home in St Augustine area.
Travel.

Name some places you have lived.

I've always lived in the Gainesville, Florida area.  I only moved out of the county once, briefly, and it was just one county over.

Name some bad habits you have.

Procrastinating
Snacking mindlessly
Drinking WAY too much Diet Dr Pepper. WAY.
Cursing like a sailor.

Being stubborn.

Name some jobs you have had.

Supermarket cashier
DMV worker
Child Care
Health Care

Name those you are tagging for #OSBlog:

DysFUNctional MOMents

I have so much going on right now, it's completely crazy!
BUT...they're all good things. So I'm not complaining!
I am, however, late for my own meme. Again.

PuttingtheFUNinDysFUNctional

The other night Shelbie asked me to paint her fingernails. I reminded her that I'm really not very good at painting nails, but she whined and begged, so I finally agreed to shut her up because I am so sweet.

So, I painted her nails while she watched TV. And basically made a hot mess. When I was done, she looked at her nails, said "Oh.My.God." and promptly got out the nail polish remover.

I've never been very girly-girl myself. I'm pretty low-maintenance. I can't do hair. I can't do nails. And I have two daughters.
It's time to face facts; I suck at being a Girl Mom!

Link up if you wanna! Obviously it doesn't have to be today, since I can't even get to my own meme on time!

5.01.2011

It's May Day!

I like May; it's one of my favorite months. It's warm, it's Spring, the flowers are blooming, and my birthday is coming up in 10 days!

I'm starting off this month by doing something fun; the Getting to Know YOU meme from Keely @ MannLand5!

So here you go: Getting to Know ME.

the q's.

1. did you watch the royal wedding?
2. tea and crumpets or coffee and a scone?
3 who's cuter..prince william or prince harry?
4. can you speak in a english accent?
5. do you own a fancy hat?
6. would you rather live in a castle or an english cottage?
7. how old were you when prince charles and princess diana got married? were you even born?
8. have you found your prince?

----------------------------

1. I did not watch the wedding live, but I've seen a lot of clips of it over the weekend. It was beautiful, and I LOVE Kate's dress!

2. I love scones, the rest notsomuch.

3. Neither! Will is balding and Harry doesn't appeal to me at all, except his personality seems to be a lot of fun.

4. I certainly can, quite well in fact. Hubby and I do it all the time, especially when making fun of imitating his family (they're from Merry Old England).

5. No, I'm not much of a hat person and especially not a fancy hat person.

6. I would rather live in a cottage, but also own a castle for those fancy events.

7. I was 8 years old in 1981 when Princes Charles married Lady Di. I vaguely remember watching clips of their wedding.

8. I have definitely found my prince! It took me 30 years, but it was worth it. He loves me unconditionally, and I am so blessed. Here's a picture from my Not-Quite-Royal Wedding!

Self Reflections

"

Christy from Just Thinkin' and Lisa from The Sarcastic Lab Rat have started a new meme. This one is called Self Reflections Tuesday. It's all about us, as bloggers, not our kids and husbands and pets and other random stuff. Go on over to one of the host blogs to read all about it!

Today's Theme: Introduce yourself! Show us a self-portrait and list 5 things you like about yourself. And we are looking for things you really like ... not just 'I like that I'm a mommy'.

Here I am....

and here I go.........

1. I like that I make people laugh. (usually on purpose!)

2. I like that I am a very loyal friend. Once we are true, bonded friends, we always will be.

3. I like that I am a very kind person, but not a doormat. I am nice, but I don't take crap. Mess with me or my family, you will see my ugly side.

4. I like that I am a very caring person who volunteers her time to help others, human and animal.

5. I like that, with the wisdom of old age, I have accepted my flaws, worked on the ones I can or want to change, and learned to live with the ones I can't...or just don't want to change! =)

There you have it!
Go check out the other Self Reflections and then join in the fun!

Honest Scrap

I've seen this meme floating around the blogosphere and decided to play along. I ripped it off from The Twisted Fencepost. The deal is, first you list 10 Honest things about yourself. Then, you tag 7 people to play along on their blog. And I will be tagging people, oh yes I will!
1. I'm currently on an 80's Rock kick and I'm loving every minute of it. I listen to the Classic Rock station in the van, and I'm listening to a Journey-based station on Pandora. Love it!
2. I drink way too much sweet tea. But it's so darned good!
3. I drink too much coffee, too. But that's to keep me awake on night shift, so I do have an excuse.
4. I wish I had more patience. If that were something I could buy, I'd stock up!
5. I wish I had more computer time. I'd buy that, too!
6. I wish I'd win the lottery so I could stay home and read books in the glider in my back yard. Seriously, I'd spend a ridiculous amount of time doing just that if I didn't have to work.
7. I'm always behind on housework. Sometimes I wear myself out trying to tackle it all, sometimes I just give up!
8. I usually put my make-up on in the car or van on my way to wherever I'm going. Tonight I left it in the car and drove the van, so I'm at work with no make-up. And I don't really care!
9. I can't stand for my nose to be cold, and if I could find a nose-warmer, I'd totally buy that too. My nose is cold right now and I am not happy!
10. I don't even own an iron. I'm such a slacker! Speaking of which, I'm reading Confessions of a Slacker Mom right now. Great book!
And I know I've been behind lately, so if you've already done this and I missed it...do it again! Or, not! :P

IYGAKAC & Stuff

IYGAKAC:
Today's the day for IYGAKAC! But guess what...I didn't have time for it, and I'm guessing not many of you did either.
I'm going to do IYGAKAC less frequently. If your kid takes pics and you post them, let me know, and then we'll do a big post. Weekly is just too often!
But if you participated, please sign Mr Linky and leave me a comment.
So far, I know that BoufMom from Who Says 8 is Enough? played this week.

Stuff:

I have a few things that I've been tagged for, so I'm going to take care of them now!

Irregular Tammie tagged me for this Weird Things Meme.

Rules:

1. link to the person that tagged you, and post the rules on your blog.
2. share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself.
3. tag 7 people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
4. let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Random/Weird Things:

1. (weird) One of my little OCD things is symmetry and order. I recently got a cute little glittery mini Christmas tree decoration and then a glittery "Hope" decoration to go with it. But when I arranged them, I realized I needed another mini tree to go on the other side of the "Hope" deco. I couldn't stand it until I went and bought another tree!
2. (weird) I love almost all types of music from country to hard rock. I don't like jazz, but I listen to it every morning because my favorite radio show, Bob & Sheri, is only broadcast locally on a jazz station.
3. (random) I have lost 110 pounds in exactly 9 months. If you haven't already heard my story, read here.
4. (random) I have the best husband in the world. He had the day off today, and he let me sleep all day, then made me 'lunch' when I woke up, and stopped at Walgreens for my Cinnamon Bun crack coffee while taking me to work. Love him!
5. (random) My favorite aunt & her husband aren't coming to visit for Thanksgiving because he is very sick with the flu. I am so bummed! It won't be the same without them.
6. (weird and random) One of my dogs killed a squirrel the other day! She always chases them but somehow she actually managed to catch one this time. Then she got mad at all of the other dogs because they wanted to play with her 'prize'. J had to throw it over the fence. Ew!
7. (random) Yesterday, Spiderman, the Princess and I were at the grocery store. Out of the blue, Spiderman very seriously informed me that if anyone at school wants to mess with the Princess, they'll have to get through him first, because he's not going to let anyone hurt his sister! (all together now.....awwww!)

I tag...yikes, seven people? OK, I'll do it. But, only participate if you want, don't feel obligated!
Aubrey, John Deere Mom, Hot Tub Lizzy, Meaghan, Jojo, Becky, and Jennifer.

Aaaand last but not least:
This is the Favorite Things with a Twist Meme. You have to list 10 of your Favorite Things. The twist is that they all have to start with a letter, which is assigned to you. Aubrey gave me the letter "N". N?? Seriously? Yikes! Here I go.
1. Nice people.
2. Nachos.
3. Nudity. ha!! Just had to throw that one in.
4. Naps!!!
5. Nestle Chocolate
6. Necklaces
7. Nonconformists
8. Nuts (get your mind out of the gutter)
9. New England Clam Chowder
10. Nature.

If you want to play, let me know, and I'll hook you up with a letter.

Happy Tuesday!

10.23.2008

Thank you, and I am a butthead.

I have been tagged for a few memes lately and given some awards, and I've been remiss in doing my part! So here are a few of the things I need to catch up on.

Lynette at KooKoo for CocoaPuffs tagged me with this one:

Here are my seven random facts:

1. I am just about to crack open the final book of the Twilight series, Breaking Dawn. I don't want it to end!

2. This weekend,we are taking the girls to a Fall Festival to benefit The Sebastian Ferrero Foundation. One day, I will post about why this foundation has a special place in my heart.

3. One of my big pet peeves is when someone comes up to me while I am obviously talking on the phone, and starts talking to me as if I were not on the phone. So.RUDE!

4. My voice is mostly back, but I think I sound like an adolescent boy right now. Very flattering.

5. In addition to the Fall Festival I mentioned above, this weekend is homecoming for our favorite team, The Florida Gators, involving a parade, pep rally, and of course the football game. There is another Fall Festival in a small town near us, and a Harvest Festival in our little town. Lots of fun activities this weekend!

6. Tonight is the Fall Festival at the Princess's school. They have the best Fall Festival of any school I've ever been to, I just love it. But...no other parents from her class have volunteered to help out with our booth, so I may be running it all night by myself! Slackers.

7. We're getting a new living room set delivered next week. Yay!

If you want to do this, you're tagged!

I am honored to have received this award from MamaHut:

...and this one from Mozi Esme:

Thank you so much!

And...this makes me feel like such a butthead, but I'm pretty sure I got one more award but I can't find the email about it and can't remember what it was or who it was from. So...if you recently tagged me or gave me an award and I haven't mentioned it, please smack me over the head to remind me!

9.17.2008

I'm Charmed with the Proximidade! Or something.

I was given this sweet award by JoJo of A Mom's World of Madness and Blessings.

I had no idea what it meant, so I went looking and this is what I found.

This blog invests and believes, the proximity. [meaning, that blogging makes us 'close' -being close through proxy]. They all are charmed with the blogs, where in the majority of its aims are to show the marvels and to do friendship; there are persons who are not interested when we give them a prize, and then they help to cut these bows; do we want that they are cut, or that they propagate?

I'm still a little confused, but I'm pretty sure it's a good thing and it's a really pretty award! Thanks, JoJo!

She also tagged me for this Meme, so here I go!

1. Where were you 10 years ago?
September 1998, I had a 5 year old and 2½ year old. I was staying at home and had a small home day care. Little did I know how much my life would change in the next ten years!

2. What is on today's To Do List?
Court with the ex at 9:30. Good times! Then I'll sleep until it's time to pick up the girls. Then it's dinner and relaxing until time to go to work at 11pm.

3. What would you do if you were a billionaire?
I'd find someone very smart to manage my money, first of all! Then I'd make sure my kids' college education was paid for. We'd get new vehicles for sure. Depending on where we lived, maybe we'd buy another house, who knows. And of course, donate, donate, donate! To all of my favorite charities. I'd take care of my family and close friends. Volunteer more. Spoil my kids more!

4. Name 5 places you have lived:- Well, I've lived in several different places in Gainesville, FL, and in several small towns outside of Gainesville, FL. I've never wandered far.

5. Name 3 of your bad habits:- Being sarcastic, procrastinating, and feeding the dogs whatever I'm eating.

6. What are your favorite snacks? cheese & crackers, fruit, sunflower seeds, veggies & dip, nuts...

7. Who will you tag for this meme? I hate to be a party-pooper but I'm not going to tag anyone, because so many people hate to be tagged. (why is that? memes are fun, people!) Anyway, if anyone wants to do this, consider yourself TAGGED!! ;o)

9.04.2008

My Bucket List

I saw this meme over at Cafe Kel. It looked like fun, so I decided to play along.

If any of you have seen (or heard of) the movie it's pretty self explanatory. I need to write out 8 things I want to do before I "kick the bucket."

My first thoughts are about raising great children & helping lots of animals, but this is truly about ME so I'm going to do a purely selfish Bucket List.

*ETA* I thought of a couple more things to add, and I decided I will make this a work in progress and add to it when I think of new things. Also, if I do manage to accomplish any of these, I'll be sure to let y'all know!*

  1. visit England (& I could name many other countries too but that's #1).
  2. buy an RV and travel the United States.
  3. have a HUGE family reunion with all of the family members that I don't get to see nearly as often as I'd like.
  4. own a vintage restored Mustang.
  5. make a difference in as many lives as possible.
  6. read every book I've ever wanted to read.
  7. go diving (I'm too afraid, but maybe if I were facing death anyway....).
  8. renew our vows on the beach.
  9. go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
  10. meet all of the amazing, wonderful friends I've made over the internet throughout the years.

I'm not tagging anyone, but feel free to grab this thought-provoking meme!

*Check out my post over here also!

8.07.2008

An Award, a Meme, and some Random Stuff.

Random Stuff first.

*A very good friend of mine from high school found me on Facebook. Since I last saw him, he and his wife had a little girl. We'll call her Cutie. In the "Favorite Quotes" section on his Facebook profile it says: "Daddy." by Cutie.
How sweet is that?! I love it.
*One of my favorite blogs is missing! Does anyone know where Groovy Mom went? =(
*If you have never checked out Stretch Marks, please, run do that now. She is an amazing writer, and she's going through a very tough time right now. I challenge you to read today's post on Stretch Marks and not cry. I challenge you!
*My husband is working insane hours this week. He goes in at 7am and works until at least 10pm. Since I work nights, I literally have not seen him since Monday. I'm totally not used to this; other than every August when he works these crazy hours, we are together all.the.time. But I'm trying to put on my big girl panties and deal with it.
Anyway, tonight he left work a little early planning to surprise me and get home just before I left for work. But I didn't know, and I left a little early for work.
We just missed each other. (sigh)
*When hubby did get home, our 12 year old foster dog was eating the crayons I got for the Princess for school.
Look forward to rainbow-colored poop pics to follow!
(kidding, I won't subject you to that)
*There's an update about the foster dog I mentioned in this post at www.daretorescue.com.

15 Years in a Nutshell

Actually it's more like MY last 15 years were in the nutHOUSE. But anyhoo....
I stole a meme from Queen of the Mayhem.

This meme is: 15 Years in a Nutshell

Here's the deal: Think back on the last 15 years of your life. What would you tell someone that you hadn’t seen or talked to for 15 years? How would you sum up your life?

You get 10 bullet points. A list of 10 things to summarize you. At the end of your list, tag 5 more people and send on the love.

Off I go...

* I spent 10 of the last 15 years in a crappy marriage.

* But, out of that I got 3 fantabulous children.

* I worked most of that time in Child Care.

* I lost the last of my grandparents during the last 15 years, a cousin, a dear uncle....too many people. I miss them all.

* The rotten marriage finally ended.

* The kids and I struck out on our own, and we did great. I had a great time living the single life on the weekends when the kids were with their dad.

* Then I met the most wonderful man in the world!

* We got married in 2005 and are living happily ever after.

* We started fostering & rescuing dogs, a life-long dream of mine.

* I gained crazy, wonderful in-laws.

* I got a job in a hospital, another long-held dream.

* We've watched our kids grow up, which is bittersweet.

* We moved out to the country, which we LOVE. Our big yard is the best!

* I've finally taken a major step to lose weight and get healthy, and have so far lost over 75 lbs.

* I've developed wonderful friendships that I will always cherish.

So, only if you're interested, grab this meme. I'd love to read a synopsis of your last 15 Years in a Nutshell!

ETA: I just realized I used 15 bulletin points instead of 10. I had 15 on the brain. Oh well!
