Listicling It Up

This Monday's Listicles theme is 10 THINGS YOU THOUGHT AS A CHILD YOU WOULD DO/BE.
My memory sucks these days, but to my surprise things started coming back to me as soon as I saw this theme.

1. A mama....I don't remember ever NOT wanting to have kids.
2. A teacher.  BahahaHAHAHA - I have no idea what I was thinking.  There's no way I could handle that job! *sidenote*  - I did work in childcare for years but never with children older than three.  I ADORE babies but once they become talking-back-creatures and I actually have to make them learn something vital?  I'm out of my element.
3. A veterinarian or animal rescuer of some kind.  Always did love the animals.  I would read in the paper (at a very young age) about all of the animals that were euthanized and get SO upset.  Another (related) dream was Marine Biologist.
4. A photographer, but not of people, of nature and animals.  
5. A wife.....I also don't remember ever NOT wanting to be married.  And now I've done that twice, go me! HA
6. I wanted to move far, far away.  I still live in my hometown.  I have moved into smaller neighboring towns, but am now back in my old hometown.  And now I have no desire to move away!
7. A cosmetologist.  Which is hilarious because I SUCK at doing hair.  I would've been the worst hairdresser in the history of the planet!
8. I SO desperately wanted to be a famous singer.  However I was not graced with the voice for that.  If I could have one talent, that would probably be the one I chose.  
9. I wanted to be a writer.  I have been writing as long as I can remember, pretty much from the time I learned how to write.  Journaling, short stories, school newspaper, etc., you name it.  I would love to have a book published one day.  I can dream......
10. I've always loved old people and wanted to take care of them, and wanted to be in health care.  And Now I have been in health care for the past 6 years!  

It's funny to look back and remember the things I thought I wanted to do that now TOTALLY don't fit with the person I've become (teacher, cosmotologist), and at the same time see the things that absolutely DO fit (writer, health care, animal rescuer)!

It's Monday and I work tonight,

 so I could totally justify being cozily snuggled in my bed snoozing, 

but instead I woke up and have been all productive and stuff.  

I think I'm coming down with something. 

My house is clean and smells amazing so now it's time to play.  

Monday Listicles!

I decided to choose the topic 10 Things Totally 80's because I am old as dirt and remember the 80's fondly!

I was born in 1973 so I was seven years old when I was blinded with all things fluorescent.

Here's what made it into my memory of the 80's.....

1. WHAM!  Oh, how I loved WHAM!  In the early 80's I got sick and was hospitalized and totally spoiled. I owned everything WHAM! sold, from posters to albums (maybe cassettes?), T-shirts, etc.

2. Leg Warmers.  I remember getting my first pair from my aunt for Christmas.  They were multi-colored and striped, and I know there were matching gloves, and I think maybe a scarf or hat too.  I was COOL.

3. Oversized shirts, tight jeans, and scrunchy socks.  They were THE wardrobe.

4. Top Gun.  I fell in love with Tom Cruise in 1986.  (sadly, I have since fallen OUT of love with him.)  That was also the first movie I ever owned on VHS tape.  I still quote it on a regular basis.  "Negative, Ghost Rider" and   "That son of a bitch cut me off!" are used in daily conversation.

I miss this Tom.  

5. The Simpsons.  They were naughty and irreverent and I just loved them.  "Cowabunga, dude!"

6. My 1984 Mustang.  I got it in 1989.  It was beautiful, and I still miss that car.

but it looked EXACTLY like this except mine did not have the fin on the back.  *tear* I loved that car SO much.

7. My first kiss/first love/ first heartbreak all happened in the late 80's.  

Now we're friends on Facebook.  LOL

Ain't it funny how that works?

8. Come to think of it, I also met Hunter in the 80's.  We went to middle school together.

9. In the 80's, there was a teen dance club in our town.  I frequently told my parents I was going there  went there.  Yes, went there, that's it.  Once.

10.  Bangs and hairspray.  I had BIG hair.  Several perms.  I will share this one pic....I didn't have a perm here but I was rockin' the bangs.  Oh, how I hate this picture! LOL

Complimentary Listicles

Today's Listicles topic is 10 Compliments. One of the things I love about the Listicles is that you can kind of do whatever you want within the topic.  I decided to split it into two lists - 5 compliments I love to RECEIVE, and 5 compliments I love to GIVE.

Years ago I had a co-worker who made my day on a regular basis.  She was so free with her compliments; when she noticed something, she said it.  "That color looks great on you, your hair looks so good today..." etc.  I noticed that she was so well-liked and people were just drawn to her, because she made people feel good.  Since then I try to be more free with MY compliments.  Especially with my kids, because I think they are big self-esteem boosters.Like....

5 COMPLIMENTS I LOVE TO GIVE

1. You did a GREAT JOB with _______.

2. I love the way you did _______.  I try but mine never turns out as well as yours!

3. Can you help me with _____? You are so much better at it than I am!

4. You are so good at _____. 

5. This food is delicious!  Can I get the recipe?

I used to be really bad about taking compliments.  I always tried to combat it with something negative...it was weird. When I realized what I was doing, I made myself stop.  Now, I just say THANK YOU and force myself to shut up! lol

5 COMPLIMENTS I LOVE TO RECEIVE

1. You can't possibly be 39, I thought you were about 25!

2. Your house smells SO good.  (I have a thing about my house smelling realllly good! Tarts/candles/plug-ins are always in use!)

3. Thank you for being such a great caregiver.

4. Any compliment or thank you coming from my kids....of course.

5. This food is delicious!  Can I get the recipe?

This week's listicles theme was 10 THINGS IN MY HOME.

My list is going to be all kinds of random, because random is pretty much my middle name.

1. Candles.  My home is always filled with candles, no matter where I live.  I love for my home to smell good and I love the warm feeling candles provide.

2. A dishwasher. And this makes me VERY happy.  Haven't had one in years!

3. Dog hair.  OMG, dog hair.  I could sweep and mop 24/7 and never be done.

4. Laughter.  So much laughter!

5. Love.  Lots of that too.  Unconditional.

6. Friends. I am continually amazed by my wonderful and supportive friends.  I love having them in my home.

7. Laundry.  It's a neverending battle.  At least it smells good (see #1 lol)

8. Food. I have been cooking some DEEEEELICIOUS meals lately.  And I plan on cooking another one tonight!

9. Music.  I can't deal with silence (or loud noise - I know, I'm a pain in the ass).  If I'm not watching something on tv, I need noise, and that comes in the form of music.  I love it, it keeps me going.  Cooking, cleaning, even sleeping - there's always background music.

10. Comfort.  We can be ourselves.  Goofy, bitchy, crabby, silly, whatever mood strikes us.  We don't have to impress anyone.  Because of #5.

Turn it up Y'all!

I don't think I've ever linked up with Monday Listicles before, but when I saw the topic over at  Single Mom in the South's place, I knew I had to join in.  The topic this week is 10 Songs.  Summer is a great time for music and I love music, period.

So here I go....

#1 - This song is FANTASTIC.  In fact, it hit #1 on the country charts this week!  Which makes it Little Big Town's first number one hit.  It's the ultimate summer song.  As soon as the first notes come over the radio, we all want to get up and dance!  Love it.



#2 - This song is SEXY.  Mmmm mmm mmmm.





 #3 - This song has been on my mind a lot lately. One line in particular - "People say they wouldn't change a thing, even if they could. Oh but I would...."

 

#4 -This is my signature karaoke song. I love it, and can actually sing it without being booed off the stage. So, win/win!



 

#5 - The lyrics of this song are really perfect for where I am at in my life right now.  Every time I hear it I'm amazed.




#6 - Speaking of....my friend Jay and I both love 80's Music. We sit around and listen to 80's songs and try to remember some of the more obscure yet fabulous one-hit wonders. Because we are COOL like that. HA! Here's one I came up with the other night:

#9 -  Flashback to middle school in 3, 2, 1.....

 

#10 - This past Friday night we went to another Free Friday concert. This one was an Eagles tribute band. We had a great time, but they didn't play one of my favorite Eagles songs - one that my kids also know very well and wanted to hear.




But they did, of course, play Hotel California, so I can't complain too much.
