Can I Have Some of That?

Do you get your Daily Dose of Jack?

No, I'm not talking about this.

Although if you do get your daily dose of that Jack, that's certainly none of my concern. Party on, with your bad self! I'll be over here praying for your liver.

Anycirrhosis, that's not what this post is about. This is about a whole 'nother kind of Jack. This Jack is so awesome, if he had thumbs, he would rule the world.

As it is, he's written two books! This latest one is a cookbook, and yours truly (that's me) contributed a recipe to this awesome book. It's now available for your Kindle! Can I Have Some of That?

And best of all, all of the proceeds go to French Bulldog Rescue Network and Chase Away K9 Cancer. Even if you don't have the Kindle, if you purchase the Kindle version, Jack will send you a PDF version for free. That way the charities still get some bones (haha!) and you still get your book. Win/win!

So check it out, and while you're at it, check out his fabulous first book, Jack: A Book About a Dog Where the Dog Doesn't Die at the End.

Dogs everywhere will thank you!

Blogging, Books, & the Beach, etc!

Mommy's Idea

Finally, I got a new internet thingy, so my internet is no longer broken! Maybe I will be able to blog more now! Let's start with the Famous Friday Fragments.

Tonight we're going to an outdoor concert. From May - October, the town near us has free concerts downtown every Friday. A couple of years ago we went almost every Friday, but since John works every Friday night now, we haven't been in a long time. But tonight, one of John's favorite groups is performing, so he took the night off. They are a reggae group called De Lions of Jah. It's going to be FUN!

If all goes well, we're going to leave Sunday for a quick beach trip. I only wish it could be a LONG beach trip, because Mama needs a vacation!!

I got Tim Tebow's autobiography, Through My Eyes, for John, and I can't wait to read it myself. (did anyone see him on Jimmy Kimmell Wednesday night? So.freaking.gorgeous!)
But first, I got Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo for me to read. I have heard so much about it and can't wait to read it!

I'm going to cut this short so I can go catch up on your blogs! Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Don't forget to visit Mrs 4444 for more Friday Fragments!

Time for Fragging Again!

Mommy's Idea

SMP Update: The Snail Mail Project is going strong! I have officially deemed it a success; I have 30 participants so far. You're still welcome to join in!
My 14 year old daughter acquired a pen pal from England through the SMP, and now my 9 year old daughter has requested a pen pal. So if anyone has a daughter around 9 years old who would like to pen pal with Elayna, please let me know!

I'm really appreciating blogger's auto-save feature tonight; I've accidentally closed blogger out twice while typing this post up! I don't know what's wrong with me tonight!

Recently I've started to like or even love foods that I previously didn't like at all. I don't know if it's because of my surgery, getting older or what. Case in point: salted almonds, which are healthy. Pancakes, which are NOT.
Mmmm, pancakes........

I don't play Farmville, or YoVille, or HoVille, or whatever the other Facebook games are.
But I'm slightly addicted to Family Feud on Facebook, and have many of my co-workers addicted too. It's SO much fun!

Have you read any good memoirs lately? Or ever? I love them and am looking for some really good ones to read. I've already read all of Augusten Burroughs', by the way.
I recently read "Her Mother's Daughter" by Linda Carroll, the mother of Courtney Love. It was very good!

OK, I'm out! Hope y'all have a great weekend, and visit Mrs 4444's for more Friday Fragment Fun!

Dumping Mah Brain...

Hola, mi amigos!
It's Friday and it's time to dump mah brain into Friday Fragments.
~~
*** My boys rock. Today, while I slept, they not only took care of themselves, they:
~went to the library
~made their breakfast & lunch
~ cleaned up after themselves
~ washed dishes
~cleaned the floors (they swear they mopped, I don't see it but hey, I'm not complaining)
~fed/watered/let out pets
~let me sleep all day!
(Sorry, they are not for sale or rent. Today. Tomorrow, I may be singing a different tune. You never know!)
~~
*** Tonight at work, in addition to all of my normal responsibilities in this hospital intensive care unit, I've been fielding calls from a psycho ex-girlfriend! Her ex-boyfriend has a relative here in our unit. He has asked us not to put her calls through to him. Well...girlfriend does NOT like that. Not one bit. So, she calls over and over. Then, she cursed out our charge nurse.
Not a good move on our part. So, I've also been chatting with hospital security and the police department tonight. Girlfriend will be getting a call from the po-pos. Let's hope girlfriend stops calling an INTENSIVE CARE UNIT harassing people! Seriously, what is wrong with people?
~~
*** I am reading a wonderful book right now. It's called Same Kind of Different As Me. And I highly recommend it!
~~
*** Smudge and Tailz, two of our foster kittens, are going to get spayed/neutered today. Then they will be up for adoption this weekend! We need good adoption vibes for them. I love them, but they don't like to let me sleep. They like to bite me. In the face. While I sleep. They can haz loving adoptive homez? Plz?
~~
OK, if I dump mah brain any more, it will be totally empty. Have a great weekend!
xoxoxoxoxoxo

Go visit Mrs.4444 at Half Past Kissin' Time to join in or see more Friday Fragments!

Friday Fragments 3.27.2009

~ Today I attended another funeral of a friend's child. My co-worker and friend lost her daughter last weekend. She was killed in a car accident. My heart is just breaking for my friend. Her daughter was only 29 and left behind 2 small children, 5 and 7 years old. It was a military service, and it was incredibly sad.

~ Saturday is our March for Babies. I'm excited to walk and proud of the money we've raised, but I'm so over it all and ready for it to be done. I seriously doubt I will do the whole Team Captain thing again next year. Thankless job! But it's for such a good cause.

~ I'm currently reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. What an amazing book. I don't want it to end.

~ What I need to do this weekend: Catch up on laundry.

What I want to do this weekend: Catch up on sleep.

Can someone send the laundry fairy in my direction, pretty-please?

~ The weather is just beautiful here lately. I'm ready to soak up some sun!

~ It's a fun time to live in my house right now. We moved in last fall, and we saw lots of plants but weren't sure what many of them were. Now that it's Spring, they're blooming, and lots of other plants are popping up too. It's beautiful! Among other things, we have bottle brush bushes, lots of azaleas, wysteria, and the white flowers on the arch above my little hideout (not sure what kind they are!).

~ I'm totally exhausted and my brain is too fried to think of anything else. For more Friday Fragments, visit here. For some other great reads, try here, here, here, and here.

Have a Fantastic Friday & a Wonderful Weekend!

Interview With a Dysfunctional Mom

My friend Tammie from Irregular Tammie participated in a blog project in which we interview each other. After her interview, she offered to interview willing readers. I thought, why not? It sounds much more fun than a job interview, and come on, how many times in life will anyone want to interview us for anything BUT a job? I don't know about you, but I am just not that interesting.
So, here are Tammie's questions and my answers.

*I know you love animals, but do you have your limits? Is there any animal you wouldn't want as a pet?
Oh yes ma'am, I have one big slithery limit. I am terrified of snakes and don't want to be anywhere near one. I will never, ever allow one in my home on purpose. However, I don't mind lizards, iguanas, geckos, etc. at all and personally, I think that's a very fair compromise.

*What is your favorite way to spend time with your kids?
Camping! We love camping and can't wait for it to get warm enough this year. We have a huge tent and we usually go to parks near rivers or springs.

*What is the best book you've ever read and why?
Now you know I love to read, how can I choose just one? SO hard!
Actually, one of the best books I've ever read is His Name is Ron, by Ron Goldman's family. It was so emotional, I've never cried like that reading a book.

*If I gave you $100 and told you that it must be spent on something frivalous for yourself, how would you choose to spend it?
On a spa day. Including a massage!

*If you could have dinner with any living celebrity, who would it be and what would you want to talk about?
This is hard too, because I'm not a big celebrity stalker. I would have to choose Joaquim Phoenix. I'd want to discuss his family, his childhood, his parents, and his siblings, especially River. And I'd also ask him the question I want to ask almost all celebrities: "if not acting (or singing or whatever the case may be), what would you be doing right now?"

So, I personally think I stink at coming up with questions like these, but if you want to be interviewed, drop me an email and I'll do my best!
Thanks for the interview, Tammie.

Weekend Wrap-up & Stuff

~ Thank you all for all of the comments & advice on my last post. Many of you suggested only cooking & buying healthy foods, which I actually already do. For the most part, our meals at home are very healthy. It's the 2 meals per day he eats at work that worry me, as well as the choices he makes when we're out. But I'm taking your advice & having a talk with him, and then if I have to pull out the nagging.........well, hopefully I won't.

~ The Gators won the National Championship last week, and on Sunday we went to the Celebration at the Swamp. It was a blast, and we found out that our boy, Tim Tebow, is coming back for one more season. We were thrilled to hear that. From the time he came onto the field, the entire crowd was yelling "One more year!" Except for me....I was yelling "Take off your shirt!" Heh. I heart him. (seriously, he is a great guy and a very good role model, as well as an awesome quarterback. and hot.)

~ I finally broke down and went to the doctor today due to the Crud I've been fighting off and on for weeks. I could've saved us both time by just saying, "I have a sinus infection, gimme a Z-pack", but I let him earn his money.

~ I got this book today at the library, and I am loving it! Where has she been all of my life? How have I not heard of this book before? Am I the only one who's been under a rock and missed this?

~ Deadbeat mothers make me sick. I just had to get that off of my chest!

How was your weekend? What are you reading? What do you need to get off of your chest?
