The Stupid Thing I Did Today, Volume IV

Ah, good old Stupid Things. I can't believe this is only Volume IV. Oh, it's not that I've only done four stupid things since I started this blog. Not by a long shot!

It's just that I've only done four stupid bloggable things.
Also, I sometimes forget about them, because, ya know, that whole Stupid thing.
(if you want to read about Stupid Things I, II, and III, click the tag at the bottom of the post.)

So here's the latest.
It was St Patrick's Day, and I wanted to make an Irish meal. So I got a corned beef brisket, which I made with cabbage, potatoes, and onions. It was delicious.

I was in a time crunch, it was a soccer practice day, and I needed to get the corned beef in the crockpot, but first I put it on the stove in water and brought it to a boil.
Then I began to transfer it to the crockpot. But somehow, in that process, I dropped the pot, and boiling water splashed all over me.

John yelled "Take your clothes off!" And I'm like "Seriously? This is SO not the time for that, you perv!"

Then I ran into my room, stripped and jumped into a cold shower. When I was done, I shoved John in, because clearly he needed one too.

Anyway. I did a pretty nice job of burning my lower abdomen and leg. And some sensitive areas in between.

I told John "It's not THAT bad." Then he looked at it and said, "Yes it is, look right there!"
And I said, "That's a STRETCH MARK!"

Geez. I have no dignity. And I apparently also have a husband who has a fetish for burn victims.

The Stupid Thing I Did Today, Volume III

I do stupid things on a pretty regular basis. I guess you could say I'm scatter-brained. If you're being kind. My mind seems to normally be on about 12 things at once. That's my excuse for the Stupid Thing I Did Today.
It was quittin' time, which for me is 0700. In my defense, work is very hectic right now, and mornings are especially busy. So, after finishing my morning duties, I gathered up my things and left.
Except...I left one very important thing behind.
My.freaking.PURSE.
I didn't realize it until I was getting out of the car. At home. In another town.
Now, I don't know about you, but my purse contains my life. I had my keys and cell phone in my pocket, otherwise I'd have never made it home without realizing I didn't have it. But everything else of any importance? In my purse.
Daily medications? Which I need? In my purse.
Cash? In my purse.
Cards? In my purse.
Hairbrush? In my purse.
I can't tell you how many times today I thought of something I needed and then remembered: Oh yeah. It's in my purse.
Fortunately, I didn't need to buy anything, and obviously I lived without all of the other precious things that were in my purse.
But you can bet that I will be very certain that my purse is hanging on my arm when I leave in the morning!

Tell me about your purse. Is your whole life in there, or only a few necessities?
And...have you done anything stupid lately? Come on, you can tell me!

The Stupid Thing I Did Today, Part II

I told you there would be a part II to this! And believe me, it's only taken this long because (a) this is the first blog-worthy Stupid Thing I've Done since part I, and (b) it's the first thing I've remembered to blog about. Because honestly, Stupid Things are pretty much a daily occurence in my life.

But this one was remarkable.

We took the kids to the library on Monday. We checked out books, checked out a couple of DVDs...the usual library stuff. When we were walking out, a bookcover happened to catch my eye. So, I was reading the cover as I was walking out the door and CRASH! I slammed right into the security machine that beeps if you try to walk out with a library book.

You know, like this?

HUGE and impossible to miss?
Yeah, not for me. I'm special like that.

I even have a huge, purple goose-egg on my forehead to prove it.

Now it's your turn. Tell the truth....got stupid?

The Stupid Thing I Did Today

I nearly titled this post, 'The Stupid Thing I Did Today, Part I', so certain am I that I will have many more stories to add to this. It will most definitely become a series.

I got a new pillar candle a couple of weeks ago and it's sitting in a pretty decorative candle holder on top of the big screen TV. Picture something like the photo below, only black iron, and prettier, with a sage green candle on top.

When we need to plug in the Wii or the DVD Player, we have to pull the TV out, switch around the plugs, and push it back in.

All weekend, J has been doing this and every time, my new pillar candle would fall down. And every time, I would fuss at him that he was going to mess up my new candle and for goodness sake, just take it down BEFORE it falls!

So today, I needed to plug the Wii in for Spiderman. I pushed the TV out, plugged the Wii in, and went to push the TV back. So you're thinking I did the same thing J's been doing all weekend, right? Oh no. I did him one better. See, I had a tart burning in my tart burner. Completely melted, a pool of hot wax. And that big pillar candle fell right on top of it.

Wax on the TV, wax on the Wii, wax on my clothes, my hair, MY FACE.

It was absolutely brilliant.

So...did you do something stupid today? Tell me it's not just me that does this stuff....
