As your kids get older, you will have these little sudden realizations that I call "Holy Crap Moments". I have had several of them recently.
It's not that you don't, on some level, know that time is passing and (you and) your kids are getting older. But sometimes, as we plod along in our day-to-day lives, we don't really think ahead about things to come. Then, when these things finally occur to you, they slam you right between the eyes and leave you lying on the floor, curled into the fetal position.
Some of my recent Holy Crap Moments include:
"Holy crap, my twenty year high school reunion is next year!"
"Holy crap, my thirty-seventh birthday is this year!"
"Holy CRAP, my BABY girl is about to turn nine years old!"
"Holy crap, I've known Andrew since he was four and he's 10½ now!"
"Holy crap, my teen daughter is going into HIGH SCHOOL next year!!"
"My son will be seventeen soon OMG like in TWO MONTHS HE WILL BE SEVENTEEN! HOLY CRAP!!!!"
"My son has a job and drives a car. HOLY.CRAP."
"Holy crap, I have been driving for over twenty years!"
"When I was my son's age, I was dating his father and we were.......oh HOLLLLLLLY CRAPPPPPPPPP. I don't want to be a Grandma for AT LEAST TEN YEARS!!"
Blogging from the fetal position,
Cyndy

Yep, yep, yep, and yep.
How about... Holy crap my daughter is older than when I gave birth to her!!!
That's been my latest one.
It won't make you feel any better but you aren't alone.
Haha - So true...I was just thinking the other day that it was hard to believe my oldest is almost 8 and that my step-son turns 9 this weekend.. I can't believe I'm that old. Wasn't I like just a carefree teenager the other day? *wink*
Oh yeah I'm all over the Holy Crap moments! When your 14 yo son is taller than you and your 13 yo son looks like he has the making of a moustach yep Holy Crap!
Like when you still feel the same as you did in your 20's, but suddenly realize you -Grandson- is turning 8 this year and YOU are turning 50.. Yep, Holly Crap!!!!!
Oh Yeah... and the little foal you helped be born and have had all of his life is 20... YES, 20 this year. For some reason that makes me feel as old as checking the ages of my son and grandson ;)
I've been having a few holy crap moments myself lately! I find birthdays bring that on...mine was last week and my daughters was yesterday.
Right now I'm saying HOLY CRAP there is 2 feet of snow outside, it shows NO SIGNS OF STOPPING and my daughter's birthday party is planned for tomorrow!
And the Holy Crap will just keep coming. I have twenty years on you!
Enjoy it now....
Oh yes....Holy Crap moments!
Holy Crap I'll be 40 in 13 months.
This post almost made me laugh...or cry...not sure which. It's been a retrospective day here for some reason or another and I've been having those exact sentiments. Well written.
Ah, I loved this...my biggest recent Holy Crap moment was my last birthday...in September...and I haven't gotten over it yet!
Oh ... I can relate to these a little too much!! I mean, HOLY CRAP ... my 25th high school reunion HAS ALREADY PASSED!
omg, the way you ended that made me snort!!!!!!!
I too am holy crapping about a daughter on the verge of 9 (March 1 to be exact).
I also holy crapped today thinking about how long we have been in our house - 6 years; we have been married 11.5 years and so not only have we lived in our house longer than we lived anywhere in our married life, but we've lived over half our marriage in this house!
Holy crap - Kelsey is going to be in middle school in 2 short years!
And, holy crap - we've been married for almost 12 years; when did that happen?
HAHA That is classic. I have those moments all the time. My 20 year HS reunion is in May of THIS YEAR! And I didn't think OMG I'm 37, I think OMG I will be 40 in 3 years!!!
I have been having lots of those days recently too!
Holy crap! Now you've got be thinking!
This post really hits home with me.
I've been there with most of that stuff.
HOLY CRAP, Cyndy! Did you have to remind me??!!
Holy crap, I'm about to be 38 with still no kids or husband. Oh well, good thing God still has a plan because mine is shot!
