I love the way Scary Mommy describes being a Scary Mommy.
"I believe a Scary Mommy is a mother who doesn’t leave the house wearing lipstick at all times. A Scary Mommy loves her kids to death, but will admit to feeling totally overwhelmed and exhausted by the gig. A Scary Mommy doesn’t really care what other people think, and a Scary Mommy thinks that all mothers win when we admit our weaknesses."
I agree with every word of that. As for my personal scariness....well to start off with, there's the way my head spins around in full circles when I'm angry. That's pretty scary.
And the way I can silence a room full of children with nothing but a look. That? Is kind of terrifying.
But you won't believe how scary this is....on busy nights, I think it's ok to feed my kids microwave dinners. Or pancakes & hot cocoa. Amazingly, I have done this...and they lived.
You know what else? My kids have fallen asleep before they've even eaten dinner on a few occasions. They did not starve before they woke up the next morning!
I'm not terribly crafty. I am TERRIBLE at fixing girls' hair, and believe me, I have tried.
I yell when I'm mad, but I also yell when I'm cheering them on at their games.
I'm impatient, but I'm supportive.
I'm disorganized, but I'm helpful.
I'm indulgent in some ways, very strict in others.
We may sometimes ALL drive each other crazy, but we laugh and have fun together. And somehow I've managed to raise some awesome children.....so awesome it's scary!

If I had girls, he would have to do their hair. I cannot even comb the boys' hair right (all those cowlicks). One scary mom? Scary enough? LOL
i think i fit really well into this category!! especially the no lipstick and overwhelmed part. :)
I hadn't seen this, but it is so perfect. You don't sound like a 'scary' mom at all (but then again, I fit the definition too) but rather a mom who loves her children fiercly and only wants the best life has to off for them (even if it means sometimes she has to run on empty.) :)

I love being a Scary Mommy...what fun is it if you don't have faults. No one wants to be June Cleaver...at least I hope not. I sure don't!
Isn't that the best when you can just give the Mom look and they freeze. Or when you can "see" them with the "eyes" in the back of your head.
I am totally a scary mommy!!!
Im terrified!!! Because I am the same lol
stoppin in from SITS!! love your list!!! Great blog! please stop by
You remind me of my own mom. That is exactly how I would describe her. And guess what, I love her to death, and I think I am a better person because of her.
WHOO HOOO Pancakes for dinner, I'm coming over!
Being a scary mommy is being the best mommy! And you are awesome!
Another scary: 4 year olds with scissors attempting to cut their hair to look like mommy's crappy haircut that she just got.
That's scary!
I am dreadful at doing my daughter's hair. DREADFUL! And, seriously, can you teach me that look? Because I have no way at all to silence my monsters!!
It seems like I'm pretty scary too. ;)
I found you on SITS and am now following. You can find me at http://thesuburbanjungle.blogspot.com
I love this!! I totally am proud to be a scary mommy! It's actually the ones who try to be perfect that make me nervous. This is an awesome post. That whole "silence the room with just a look" thing, yea, I learned that technique from my mom. Thanks for stopping by my blog! It was to hear from you... :-D
I'm a big fan of Scary Mommy, too, but I couldn't put into words why she and I could be sisters - but you did it so well! I can totally relate. What a well-written post, bravo! Stopping by from SITS this morning. Happy Thursday!
i, too, believe that sometimes the microwave is a scary moms bff.
