Have you ever heard that song? You know, Jimi Hendrix? Kiss This Guy?
What? That's not what he really says? Ohhhh. "Kiss the Sky". Gotcha.
What? That's not what he really says? Ohhhh. "Kiss the Sky". Gotcha.
What about "Hold Me Closer, Tony Danza", by Elton John?
That's wrong too? It's "Tiny Dancer"?!
That's wrong too? It's "Tiny Dancer"?!
I've heard both of those many times. Misheard song lyrics crack me up! Another one I love is "There's a Bathroom on the Right" ("There's a Bad Moon on the Rise", 3 Dog Night)
My sister swore that old disco song "If I Can't Have You, I Don't Want Nobody Baby" by Yvonne Elliman was actually "If a Cat Had You...". It's great how it doesn't have to make sense. If that's what you hear, that's what you hear! When I first heard the Outkast song "I Like the Way You Move" I swore they were saying "Under the Living Room", and now we all sing it that way.
When Shelbie was little and sang the song "These Days" by Rascall Flatts, she said "if you ever come back around this stinky old town" instead of "sleepy old town".
Tim thought Phil Vasser was saying "and I ask the Lord, very nice" instead of "every night" in the song "Just Another Day in Paradise".
My brother did it on purpose; he was the Weird Al of the family. Two of his favorites were "Self Control" by Laura Branigan (instead of "you take my self, you take my self control" he sang "you take my 'mote, you take my 'mote control") and Paul Young's "Every Time You Go Away"; Greg sang "Every time you go away, you take a piece of MEAT with you" instead of "me". Yeah, he's special.
So, you know you did it too. What song lyrics did you mishear?

MC Hammer's Can't Touch This, I thought it said, "Contortion".

Oh C you reminded me another one - John always says "wrapped up like a douche" in blinded by the light! and that Doobie's song is China GROVE!! Which I never knew until I met John, I had no clue what they were saying at all.
I love these! A guy I used to work with had a day calendar of Misheard Lyrics. Every day we would read them out loud and laugh hysterically. Some of them were really good. I always sing the "Hold me close young Tony Danza" every time I hear that song. Just for a laugh!
...stopping by from SITS...

I love misheard lyrics Cyndy. My favorite is from One Vision by Queen. At the very end of the song they say it. I know they finally sang it that way too a few times for fun.
Gimme one light
Gimme one hope
Just gimme
One man one man
One bar one night
One day hey hey
Just gimme gimme gimme gimme
Fried chicken
Juice Newton - "Angel in the Morning"
The lyrics are, "Just brush my cheek before you leave me" and I definitely sang, "just brush my teeth before you leave me.
My mom still loves to bring it up at family gatherings. Gah.
haha - those are funny! Oh I KNOW I do it, but honestly I can't think of anything that comes to mind that I do it to. Then again, I'm usually the one singing blissfully along - wrong words and all - never knowing she was wrong. Ingorance is bliss, isn't it?! :)

Oh god I always misunderstand lyrics. The song "Mystery Girl" by Nelly Furtado & someone.... I thought forever said "Promiscuous Girl" and I can't even tell you how long I thought that, and how confused I was that everyone really liked the song.
Those arene't the right words? You mean I've been singing it wrong all these years? Oh no, don't tell anyone! tee hee
I can't think of any that haven't already been said in the comments. Yes, I have made almost all of those mistakes too.
And if we don't know the words...we sing...."watermelons, watermelons, watermelons".
I'm going to rat out my Hubs on this one. He's the WORST when it comes to song lyrics. "Pour some sugar on me"...? Yeah. He sings "HORSE AND BUGGY ON ME!!" as if the horse and buggy fell on top of him. Oh, and he royally screws up Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby". I won't go into all the problems he has with that song. This was funny...thanks for the laugh! I'm popping over from SITS roll call, happy Tuesday.
Funny! Okay, I don't know the title/artist...but the real lyrics go "I won't put my hands up, and surrender" When the song came out, we thought they said "I won't poke my eyes out, and surrender." Listen to it- You can hear it!
Stopping by from sits!
I think it's the Police that sing - "My poor heart aches" and I always sing it "I'm a pool hall ace."
The problem for me with singing the wrong the lyrics is that I don't know what the real ones are! LOL
This was fun - Thanks!

Love this post! My Dad is a notorious wrong lyric singer. My favorite of his- Jimmy Buffet-Margaretaville. He sings, "stepped on a pop tart" instead of "stepped on a pop top". It took literally 15 minutes to convince him I was right!
Hi! :)
I am going to be posting an award for you in the next half hour. Come by soon!
that is hilarious! when i was in middle school i remember thinking that jack and diane {john cougar mellencamp} said, "make us swimming in band" and i thought that was too odd. "make us women and men"...wow!
I love those!!! I get a kick too out of some of the lyrics that people change or believe they hear.
My ex-husband used to make fun of that song Your Own Personal Jesus to Your Own Personal Cheese Sauce. And I think on Ellen once they talked about some women who thought Rhianna's song Don't stop the Music was Hazel's Got the music.
I had a friend in high school who thought the Greg Kihn Band song 'Our Love's in Jeopardy,' was really "I Love the Japanese,' and would sing the wrong lyric at the top of her lungs. It was hilarious.
Funny!! To this day, when I hear Johnny Rivers' Secret Agent Man, I sing secret ASIAN man! And in Manfred Mann's Do Wah Diddy I heard "I'm hurt, she's mad" instead of "I'm hers, she's mine" and I couldn't figure out wedding bells were gonna chime!
(Found this via Fluer de Aleta, via NaBloWriMo)
LOL!!! I always thought it was 'revved up like a douche, another runner in the night' and still don't even know what it really is!
when my daughter was three she asked me what jimmy buffet 'Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw' was about (damn CD in car)and I told her he was saying 'Why don't we get junk at school?' and it was about cleaning up the classroom! lol
awesome post!!
Definitely the "Bathroom on the Right." I was in college and thought that was what they were saying. ♥
If you read my post tonight, I hope you'll comment. I think you're in the medical field, right? I am still so confused as to why Saturday night went down like it did at the hospital.
IF you are in the medical profession as I seem to remember, maybe you can help me to understand.
ROFL! I'm still cracking up with the Tony Danza :)
There is a tape of me singing at the age of 3-4 to Air Supply:
"Believe it or not, I'm walking on air. I never thought I could feel so free-e-e-e. Flying away on a wing and a prayer...
GOOD GOOD it be..." :D
What a hilarious thread. I know there's one I do all the time, but I can't think of it. Now it's driving me crazy. Something about insane bald women. I'll think of it.
I know East Bound and Down I always thought was "He's found a dime, rollin up and truckin'"
The main theme in the Lion King, works just fine if you sing it as pink pajamas, penguins in pajamas, pink pajamas, penguins in pajamas. Now I can't hear it any other way.
Here's one I've always wondered about. I have always wondered about the reved up like a douche in Blinded by the light, but later on does it say he kicked my anus curly wurly and asked me if I needed a ride? That one always seemed pretty risque for radio to me.
That was funny. Thanks for the laughter this morning. You were just above me on roll call at SITS this morning and I'm glad I decided to visit. Laughter is good.
My parents told me that when I was little I would come home singing "The Lord is my shellwosh" instead of "The Lord is my shepherd".
This next one has been told by many preachers on the island. We sing a song "I am delivered Praise the Lord". This little old lady was heard singing out loud in the congregation "I am de lizard Praise the Lord" LOL! That cracks me up everytime I hear it.
Have a wonderful day.
You know how in What a Feeling it says 'take your passion and make it happen'. When I was a kid I thought it said take your pants off and make it happen. I thought it was really raunchy :O
