Decision Time

With all the drama going on in the last few weeks at work, I checked our job website and applied for a few positions on different units. I didn't hear anything back and had put it in the back of my mind.
Until today...I got a message from someone from the NICU. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
She said the position she has available is Night Shift, and wanted to know if I'd be interested in that.
Uh, YEAH!
So, I'm calling her back tomorrow, and then I guess they'll call me in for an interview.
Change is not easy for me, so I have to think about this. But, I really think this would be a good thing for me. I need to get away from the drama and negativity of the unit I'm working at.
Since I'm hopefully going back to school in the fall, this would be a great way for me to see if I could actually handle nursing in the NICU.
I haven't even been offered the position yet and I'm already stressing!
But, like Ness said to me in a comment today....If not now, when?

Our Eliza spent several weeks in the NICU after she was born, and I will forever be grateful to the nurses and doctors who cared for her when we weren't able. I just am awestruck at the compassion and professionalism that was shown to us and to our daughter.

Good for you for taking the initiative to make a change :)

I've been an NICU nurse my entire career and I LOVE it! Depending on how acute the unit is, it can be an incredible experience to have under your belt. Feel free to email me if you ever have questions :) Good luck!

Just from the bit I've read of you, it sounds like you have the compassion, intelligence and grace to be a perfect NICU worker, nurse or otherwise. My son was briefly in the NICU when born at 36 wks - and they were great folks, but much different than the "standard" nurses on the L&D floor.

That is so exciting! I always wanted to be in a nurse in NICU, but now that I have kids I don't know if I could handle it. It is tough. But if you have a certain outlook on life you can do it.
I hope it all works out!
