If You Give a Kid a Camera 06.11.09

Yesterday, Elayna decided that it was high time she take some random pictures. She grabbed my Blackberry and started shooting. Naturally, since we live in a 'zoo', she captured mostly our pets. This time her focus was on cats.

This is Tailz. He is not of the nursing litter, of which we have now lost TWO kittens. =( He's the one who had an unfortunate tail accident and is left with a little half-tail. Thus, the name Tailz. He is super-cute and sweet.

This is Smudge, and this is a totally weird picture. I did not retouch this picture in any way, it's straight from the Blackberry's camera. The funny thing is, he's in the basket where we keep Wii controllers. I think he thinks he IS a Wii controller! Look Mom, I haz sensorz!

Close up of Smudge....so cute.

He looks so innocent.
Ha!

This is Wall-E, lounging on the kitchen table. At least he's laying on newspaper.

And Lilly, following Wall-E's lead.

Charlie, the kitten of the family (fosters don't count), who has gotten so big. He's on the bench just below the table.

And of course, Elayna had to get one shot of herself. I have no idea why she chose to include her brother's wallet and some mail in the picture. Artistic license?

Have a great Thursday!

IYGAKAC & Stuff

IYGAKAC:
Today's the day for IYGAKAC! But guess what...I didn't have time for it, and I'm guessing not many of you did either.
I'm going to do IYGAKAC less frequently. If your kid takes pics and you post them, let me know, and then we'll do a big post. Weekly is just too often!
But if you participated, please sign Mr Linky and leave me a comment.
So far, I know that BoufMom from Who Says 8 is Enough? played this week.

Stuff:

I have a few things that I've been tagged for, so I'm going to take care of them now!

Irregular Tammie tagged me for this Weird Things Meme.

Rules:

1. link to the person that tagged you, and post the rules on your blog.
2. share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself.
3. tag 7 people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
4. let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Random/Weird Things:

1. (weird) One of my little OCD things is symmetry and order. I recently got a cute little glittery mini Christmas tree decoration and then a glittery "Hope" decoration to go with it. But when I arranged them, I realized I needed another mini tree to go on the other side of the "Hope" deco. I couldn't stand it until I went and bought another tree!
2. (weird) I love almost all types of music from country to hard rock. I don't like jazz, but I listen to it every morning because my favorite radio show, Bob & Sheri, is only broadcast locally on a jazz station.
3. (random) I have lost 110 pounds in exactly 9 months. If you haven't already heard my story, read here.
4. (random) I have the best husband in the world. He had the day off today, and he let me sleep all day, then made me 'lunch' when I woke up, and stopped at Walgreens for my Cinnamon Bun crack coffee while taking me to work. Love him!
5. (random) My favorite aunt & her husband aren't coming to visit for Thanksgiving because he is very sick with the flu. I am so bummed! It won't be the same without them.
6. (weird and random) One of my dogs killed a squirrel the other day! She always chases them but somehow she actually managed to catch one this time. Then she got mad at all of the other dogs because they wanted to play with her 'prize'. J had to throw it over the fence. Ew!
7. (random) Yesterday, Spiderman, the Princess and I were at the grocery store. Out of the blue, Spiderman very seriously informed me that if anyone at school wants to mess with the Princess, they'll have to get through him first, because he's not going to let anyone hurt his sister! (all together now.....awwww!)

I tag...yikes, seven people? OK, I'll do it. But, only participate if you want, don't feel obligated!
Aubrey, John Deere Mom, Hot Tub Lizzy, Meaghan, Jojo, Becky, and Jennifer.

Aaaand last but not least:
This is the Favorite Things with a Twist Meme. You have to list 10 of your Favorite Things. The twist is that they all have to start with a letter, which is assigned to you. Aubrey gave me the letter "N". N?? Seriously? Yikes! Here I go.
1. Nice people.
2. Nachos.
3. Nudity. ha!! Just had to throw that one in.
4. Naps!!!
5. Nestle Chocolate
6. Necklaces
7. Nonconformists
8. Nuts (get your mind out of the gutter)
9. New England Clam Chowder
10. Nature.

If you want to play, let me know, and I'll hook you up with a letter.

Happy Tuesday!

IYGAKAC 11.18.08

Today is Tuesday, and that means it's time for "If You Give a Kid a Camera"! Today's photos are courtesy of the Princess a.k.a. the child who is paying me back for driving my parents crazy.

The hydrangea in my back yard...

These next two are butterfly-attracting plants that we got at the Butterfly Rainforest.

One of my turtle statues...awww

Spiderman with one of our foster dogs, Honey. How sweet is this picture??

IYGAKAC 11.4.08 & Technical Difficulties

It's Tuesday, and that means it's time for If You Give a Kid a Camera! Hand over your camera to your favorite kid (or the closest one) and let them go nuts. Then, post the results on your blog!
Today, the photographer was Spiderman! Things are going very well with him being home, even better than I expected. Today, he came up to me and said "I am so happy to be living here again." :sniff: He had a blast taking pics of random things.

How appropriate that Spiderman's first pic was of...a spider!

Mmm....Halloween candy.

Ball on carpet. Very abstract.

Monkey see, monkey do.

This is one of the butterfly decorations in the Princess's room.

and one of the stuffed animals on her bed.

I can't wait to see your IYGAKAC posts!

*************************************************
Also, as you may have noticed, I'm having some major technical difficulties. My sidebar went whacko, and my super friend Alexis from Indelible Creations is trying to help me sort it all out. In the meantime, my blog may be a little kooky. I also may end up having to start out fresh with a new URL, and if so, please bear with me and please follow me!

One more thing: Mr Linky is not working for me this week. I.give.up.!!!!
This week's participants are:

IYGAKAC~ 10.28.08

Hey there, friends! Welcome to this week's edition of If You Give a Kid a Camera!
See that graphic up there? My fabulous friend Alexis from Indelible Creations made that for me! There's also a button on my sidebar over there ~~> that you can grab! Go check out her blog, she is awesome.

Today's photos are by Ladybug, my almost-13-year old teen terror darling daughter. As usual, I turned her loose and told her to take pics of whatever she wanted. She shot a few pictures of some of our outdoor decorations.

And the Ladybug is all about patterns, especially polka-dots. This is a basket we keep dog stuff in...

...and one of her striped beach towels.

And, I now have a Mr Linky going thanks again to Alexis at Indelible Designs.
Sign up! And thanks to all of you who join in the fun.

If You Give a Kid a Camera 10.21.08

It's pretty bad when you suck at your own game! We were so busy today that Ladybug didn't get to take any pictures. So, my submission for today is one of my favorite pictures that she's ever taken.

Bonnie & Tater

This is one of my dogs, Tater, and my brother's dog, Bonnie. They're standing behind my parents' "BAD DOG" sign. My parents have no dogs, they're just weird. The 2 dogs maybe weight 20 lbs together, and that's pushing it!

Be sure to check out the other IFYAKAC particpants!

If You Give a Kid a Camera ~ Spooky Edition

Today's edition of If You Give a Kid a Camera is brought to you by the Princess. I turned her loose with my cell phone this afternoon, and she had a blast. She mostly photographed our fall/Halloween decor. She did a great job!

This is a close-up of our spooky doorbell. When you ring it, a spider shoots out of the mouth and it talks in a scary voice. It scared the crap out of an unsuspecting UPS guy last year!

This is a non-Halloween wall decoration, it's a candle-holder.

(fake) chili peppers that hang in the kitchen.

Back to the festive stuff....this is a Halloween candle holder.

A black cat candle holder (we seem to like candle holders a lot....)

This is a wooden cat, and a wooden pumpkin sits in front of him and says "Happy Halloween".

A fall wall hanging.

A jack o'lantern....you guessed it....candle holder!

a Halloween tree I've had for many years.

This is a S'mores bat. He lights up. So cute! One of my favorite decorations.

And this is my favorite IYGAKAC picture for this week. This....is the Princess's SOCK! LOL

If You Give a Kid a Camera...

...you never know what kind of pictures you'll end up with! But they're bound to be entertaining. They can range anywhere from the silly/goofy, to the amazing. You may be surprised at what you'll see when you're looking through your kid's eyes. You get a glimpse of how they view the world, and what they find important enough to photograph.

So, I'm issuing a challenge! Once a week, give one of your kids the camera. If you can't bear to put your fancy, cost-as-much-as-your-kids'-college-education camera in the hands of a drooling, clutzy preschooler, give him your cell phone camera, buy her a kiddy camera, or just get a disposable! Let her take pictures of a trip to the zoo, a family wedding, or just hanging around the house. See the world through your kid's eyes, whether that is 2 feet from the ground, or 6 inches taller than you!

Then, post the results on Tuesdays. One picture, seven pictures, how-ever-many (I totally made that up) stand out as something fun or funny or just cool. And, tell your friends to give their kid a camera, give them a link back here, and tell them to join us on Tuesdays!

Feel free to steal the graphic, too.

Here are my first If You Give a Kid a Camera shots.

If you give a small Princess a camera....

Photobucket

...you may find an adorable shot of one of your dogs.

If you give a Spiderman a camera....

Photobucket

....you may just get a little creeped out when open your cell phone to find a picture of a snake! *shudder*

If you give a preteen Ladybug a camera....

Photobucket

....you may wonder why your boy-crazy daughter felt the need to take a picture of her cell phone....with your cell phone.

And if you give a teen T-bone a camera...

Photobucket

....you may end up with the best picture of your beautiful cat, that you've ever seen.

(taken with his cell phone, totally unretouched. Her eyes are really that blue, and I've never been able to capture it before!)

What do you think will happen....if YOU give a kid a camera?
