Fragments from my Easter Basket

As you can see if you've been reading all week, it's been a crazy one. It's going to be a busy weekend, but maybe - hopefully! - the craziness is over. For now.
So. Do you know what time it is? It's Half-Past Kissin' Time, of course! Also know as time for Friday Fragments!

The good news is, my kids will be with me for Easter! YAY! Except for Andrew who is going to spend the weekend with his grandmother, and Tim who has to work. OK, the girls will be with me for Easter! YAY!
We're going to an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday and having a cookout. Then on Sunday, we'll go to church, then go to my parents' house. It should be a fun, relaxing weekend.

Since April is Autism Awareness Month, I would love to do a post about autism. However, I don't have any in-depth knowledge or personal experience with autism. So, if you do, and would like to do a guest post here, please let me know, I would love to have you! (more than one poster is welcome!)

Also, today is Earth Day! Will you be pledging an Act of Green? I have already started a garden, and I am hoping to start a compost pile this weekend.

I got lots of sweet comments this week, and many with questions or comments that I would LOVE to reply to. But I can't, because they don't have their email enabled!

Please, even if you think your email is enabled, do a Dysfunctional Mom a favor and check. I will love you forever! Please, just click on Mamarazzi's super cute button below and follow the steps to check & fix this issue! Did I mention PLEASE?!

I had to bring back Facebook Faves this week. I posted this on FB last week, and it got a lot of laughs!

Cyndy N. E.:
John: Do you want to get up early with me and see the deer in the field by the house?
Me: I think I need more motivation than deer to get up early. Maybe if there were unicorns? And they all had chocolate for me?

And last but not least, here's a song for you! Enjoy.

Don't 4get to visit Mrs 4444's 4 more Friday Fragments!

Earth Day 2010

Today is Earth Day, and it couldn't have come at a more appropriate time in my life.
When we found the house that we just moved into, I immediately made a commitment to myself to start being more "green" once we moved in. We have a huge yard, so there's more room for some of the things I wanted to do. Also, the house is bigger and comes with a large, sparkly, refreshing money pit called a pool! So this will increase our energy bills. I want to save money anywhere I can, while going green!
These are my green goals thus far:

1. Recycle more. I want to be more conscientious about recycling, and try to recycle everything that I possibly can. While we were moving, I learned that there is no recycling pickup at our new home. But that's ok, we're just adding a trip to the dump to our weekend routine. This one is starting immediately.

2. Start a compost pile. I have plenty of room and plenty of grass clippings & other organic matter. This is good for the environment and keeps a lot of stuff out of the landfills. I'm hoping to start this weekend.

3. Install a clothes line. I'm going to start line drying some of our clothes. It saves energy, a win for the earth and for my finances! (I also never, ever wash in hot water. I don't even hook up the hot water to my washer.) We're doing that this weekend.

4. Make my own laundry soap. I learned about this over at Loving Mom 2 Boys' blog, and I'm really excited about it! I'm also doing that this weekend.

5. Plant vegetables/herbs. Although I have the room to plant a big garden, I lack the time and the know-how. I know my limits! But I may plant some tomato and pepper plants, and a few herbs. I also am going to make an effort to buy locally whenever possible. This will be done in the next few weeks, hopefully.

How about you?
Obviously not everyone can plant gardens and put up clotheslines, but you can start thinking of smaller things to do. Here are a few of my suggestions:

- Switch to energy saving light bulbs.
- Use cloth shopping bags. (buy a stash and try to keep them in your car.)
- Plant a small indoor herb garden.
- Buy locally. (learn how that helps here.)
- Visit www.EarthDay.org for more ideas and tips.

Happy Earth Day!

TGIFriday Fragments!

It's been a rough week on so many levels, and I am SO glad it's Friday! We don't have anything exciting planned this weekend, just R&R. Much needed R&R.

It's Fragment time!

* I'm very seriously considering transferring to a day shift position within my hospital (but NOT my unit). In fact, I have three applications in. It's a big change, but night shift is wearing me out. I think it's time.

* My blogger friend Meaghan of http://cancerlost.blogspot.com/2009/04/update-on-how-surgery-went.html had surgery this week. She had to have a kidney and a rib removed. I can't imagine how painful this was for her! And some people say cervical cancer is not much of a risk and not a big deal. @@ I dare them to say that to Meaghan! *ETA: I can't get the blog to link properly, but it's I Kicked Cancer's @ss. Go visit and send her gentle hugs!*

* We're going to visit a new church this weekend. I've been there before with the kids but hubby has never been. I'm excited! It's a very friendly, peaceful place.

* We may be getting a litter of kittens to foster this weekend. Stay tuned! There will be pictures of the fluffy cuteness.

* We went lights-out for Earth Day! We read books by candlelight. The kids didn't mind a bit! It was very nice and quiet.

* This week I've found new flowers blooming in our yard. I was THRILLED to find jasmine blooming on the gate!

I love jasmine.

Then I found honeysuckle on the back fence.

That brings back memories; we always had it growing on our fence where I grew up and I was always sucking the 'honey' out of the blossoms!

I also found some purple flowers growing just behind the back fence.

I broke off some branches, picked a purple blossom, and put them in a vase on a shelf in the kitchen. They smell wonderful!

Hope y'all have a wonderful Spring Weekend!
