Seriously?

I got this in the mail yesterday from the AARP.
(that's the American Association for Retired Persons, for you young whippersnappers).
AARP suggests I start making the most of life over 50.
They're about 13 years early.....

However, on the same day, I had to check my teenage daughter out of school for an orthodontist appointment. While sitting in the office of the High School waiting for Shelbie to arrive, I was checking Facebook from my phone. The Dean came through and gave me a dirty look. I couldn't figure out why until I heard the lady behind the desk explaining to her that I was a parent.
She thought I was a student, boldly using my cell phone in the office!

High school student? AARP Member?
Identity crisis much??

The Buddhas

Yesterday, John and I had lunch at a little cafe that we had been wanting to visit forever.

The food was delicious. The staff was friendly.

But I fell in love with the bathroom signs.

{Tasty Buddha. Not a compensated posted. Just for fun.}

My Love is Broken.

Today my Love got broken.

John gave this to me years ago, a sweet little token of Love.
That's what he calls me. Love.

And today, the kids were goofing around, and Elayna knocked it off of the shelf. It fell on the tile floor, and broke into pieces.

But it's hard to stay angry when the kid, while searching for glue to fix it for me,
found the glitter glue.....

...and made this for me.

(but I'm still a little sad.)

This Girl Has Style

When we took the kids shopping after Christmas,
the first thing Elayna bought with her Christmas money was this hat.

{Elayna, 9 years old}

I love her style.
I love the clothes & accessories she chooses.
But most of all, I love that she has the confidence to rock it!

I'm thinking I'm on the Naughty List.....

As I mentioned in Monday's post, at our church Christmas party on Sunday, we had a mug exchange. It wasn't just a simple "here's a mug" deal; we played a game in which the mugs all got passed back and forth in a circle and you kept the mug you ended up with.

When the pastor's wife first arrived at the party, she held up the bag with her mug in it, pointed at me, and said "You're getting this one."
And I giggled.

And sure enough, at the end of the game, I was holding the pastor's wife's bag.

Guess I'm on the naughty list AGAIN!

Precious Memories

My most favorite ornaments are the ones that the kids have made throughout the years.
I'm notoriously disorganized and we've moved a lot,
so it's amazing that I've managed to hold on to these ornaments for so long.

Tim is my oldest son, he is 17 and a senior in high school.
He made this ornament in preschool.

My brother's wife had this ornament made for me.
She used to babysit Tim while I worked.
He was about 18 months old in this picture.

Shelbie is almost 15 now. She made this in preschool.
It's made with colored corn kernels.

As you can see, she made this one in Kindergarten.

Andrew made this ornament in Kindergarten, too.
He is 11 now and in 4th grade.

He made this ornament in the 2nd grade.

Elayna made this one for me, but it isn't dated.
It's definitely a few years old, and Elayna is now 9 years old,
and in 4th grade.

Elayna made this one last year in church.

*Random Bonus picture of me and Elayna, goofing around.*

My Christmas Cheer

This weekend we got our Christmas tree and finished decorating the house.
I have a few pictures to share with you on this Wordful Wednesday.

The red letters in front spell the word "HOPE".

These letters spell "JOY".

I love having a fireplace to decorate! =)

This is a very special ornament; it's the oldest one on the tree. It was given to me by my very best friend Danielle when I was 16 years old, so I've had it for 21 years! And it's been on my tree every one of those years.

{I noticed THREE things that drove me insane after I uploaded these pics to Facebook; my clock was crooked, the trees behind the word "HOPE" were uneven, and there weren't enough purple ball ornaments on the tree. These things have since been remedied, since I am ALL KINDS OF NEUROTIC OCD.}

Lucky Chick

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I'm a winner.

Seriously, I've always had a bit of a lucky streak. When I worked days, I always listened to the radio on the way to work, and I have won quite a few nice prizes. Off the top of my head....tickets to see Kenny Chesney, tickets to a Sweet Corn Festival (much more fun than it sounds!), movie tickets, tickets to a WWE wrestling match (which I gave to a friend), Sesame Street Live tickets, and quite a few more cool prizes. And don't even get me started on all of the wonderful prizes I've won from blog giveaways!

But one of the best prizes I've ever won was the tickets to a Dixie Chicks concert back in 2000. Because not only did I score the tickets, but I also won the grand prize: backstage passes!
I was a Chicks fan from the first time I heard them. So I was determined to win those tickets, and I was thrilled when I did. But I absolutely flipped when I heard them call my name for the backstage passes! I also got a Dixie Chicks CD & T-shirt.

A girl that I worked with back then, who was also a good friend at the time, went to the concert with me. I was pregnant with Elayna at the time. We got to hang out with the DJ's from the radio station before the concert, as well as some of the Chicks' people. Then we got in a line and waited our turn to meet the Dixie Chicks. I was expecting to be able to kind of hang out, (I'd never been "backstage" before), but instead they led us through assembly-line style. We met the Chicks, shook their hands, and then posed for pictures, and chatted with them a little while they snapped the photos. Then we moved on and the next people came up.

(I can't believe it's been 10 YEARS since then! Time flies.)

The Dixie Chicks were sweet and beautiful, and the concert was fantastic. Natalie Maines officially announced her pregnancy that night, and she was the first Chick to have a baby.
It was a lot of fun, and one of the closest brushes with celebrity that I've ever had.
It also reminds me that I need to start listening to the radio more often!

{Front row: Dixie Chicks, back in the Fall of 2000. I'm the chubby preggo in the back. I blurred out my old friend's face because we're no longer in touch, and I don't know if she'd want to appear on my blog. The other two in the back are DJ's from the radio station.}
